Mrs Olufunmilola Disu, President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) and wife of the Inspector-General of Police, has launched a comprehensive welfare initiative aimed at transforming the lives of police families, widows of fallen heroes, and young girls.
The programme, which marks a significant expansion of the association’s social impact, focuses on a strategic mix of economic empowerment, preventive healthcare, and educational mentorship.
Securitynewsalert.com heard that under Mrs Disu’s leadership, the association is shifting its focus toward practical, grassroots support. The latest outreach specifically targeted women within the police rank-and-file, ranging from the families of constables to inspectors, ensuring that aid reaches those at the heart of the service.
The initiative also extended its reach beyond the barracks, providing welfare support and basic health screenings to nearly 200 residents from neighbouring communities.
“This is about standing with the families who have given so much in service to the nation,” Mrs Disu stated during the event. “Supporting widows of our fallen heroes and empowering women within the police community is both a responsibility and a duty we must continue to uphold.”
A core component of the drive included a health clinic where participants underwent vital checks and screenings. Mrs Disu emphasised that early detection and preventive care are essential for the long-term stability of police households.
Furthermore, the program looked toward the next generation by hosting specialised sessions for girls aged 17 and above from the Police Secondary School. These sessions were designed to inspire leadership, encourage educational ambition, and build confidence among the next generation of young women.
Mrs Disu noted that investing in girls remains one of the most effective ways to secure a stronger future for society, stating that when young women are empowered with knowledge and mentorship, they are being shaped into the leaders of tomorrow.
The President concluded by reaffirming that POWA will continue to seek strategic partnerships to sustain these initiatives. By strengthening the family units of those who serve, the association aims to contribute directly to broader national development and community stability through sustained empowerment and upliftment.
