PSC Elevates 7 Assistant Inspectors-General to DIG Rank

-

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) to the substantive rank of Deputy Inspector-General (DIG).

Securitynewsalert.com learned that the decision followed a rigorous selection process held on Friday at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, involving both written examinations and oral interviews. According to the PSC, the elevations were strictly based on merit, seniority, and a proven record of service.

The promotion of these senior officers was necessitated by the recent retirement of eight DIGs, which had left critical vacancies within the Force’s top management tier. This group joins DIG Fayoade Adegoke, who was also recently elevated, to complete the Force Management Team.

The newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, formerly of AIG Zone 4, Makurdi; Zango Ibrahim Baba, previously AIG Logistics and Supply; Isyaku Mohammed, former AIG Armament; and Margaret Agebe Ochalla, who served as AIG FCID Annex, Lagos. Also elevated were Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, formerly AIG Police Accounts and Budget; Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, former AIG Zone 15, Maiduguri; and Umar Shehu Nadada, formerly AIG Zone 14, Katsina.

During the exercise, the Chairman of the PSC, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), congratulated the officers but was quick to remind them of the heavy responsibilities their new stars carry.

“You must live up to the expectations of your new offices,” Argungu stated. “The nation looks to you to prioritise national security and foster a cordial, productive working relationship with the Commission to ensure the continued development of the Nigeria Police Force.”

The examination panel featured high-ranking members of the PSC board, including Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), Dr. Taiwo Lakanu (DIG Rtd), and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Secretary to the Commission.

The announcement, released by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, signals a renewed push for administrative stability and professional excellence within the nation’s primary law enforcement agency.
