IGP Disu seeks Commission’s support on Scheme of Service review, Inspectorate cadre challenges

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has assured the Nigeria Police Force of its readiness to work together on key personnel issues, including the review of the Scheme of Service and the resolution of career progression challenges within the Force.

The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (Rtd), mni, psc, NPM, gave the assurance at the Commission’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja while receiving the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, who paid a courtesy visit with members of his Management Team.

The visit was aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation between the two bodies.

Welcoming the IGP, Argungu described the visit as timely, noting that mutual understanding and respect for each institution’s responsibilities were vital to effective cooperation and to supporting the Force in carrying out its security mandate.

He said the Commission was willing to partner with the Force on reviewing the Scheme of Service and on personnel development. He stressed that merit, competence and performance should guide recruitment and promotion, alongside capacity development to prepare officers for the demands of modern policing.

In his remarks, IGP Disu thanked the Commission for recognising the service and sacrifices of police personnel, and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to constructive engagement with the PSC. He called for closer collaboration on personnel matters, with due regard for the distinct responsibilities of both institutions.

The IGP drew attention to the need for balance in the Force’s rank structure and sought joint action to address challenges affecting career progression, particularly within the Inspectorate cadre. He also stressed the need for sustained engagement on the review of the Scheme of Service to promote fairness, transparency and merit in personnel administration.

In response, the PSC Chairman assured the IGP that the issues raised would receive the Commission’s attention.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration aimed at promoting professionalism and improving service delivery.
