The Prayer and Support for Nigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies (PSNAFSA) has mourned the deaths of four policemen and seven other persons killed in an attack on Ayilamo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The group, in a statement signed by its Convener, Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile, said it was commiserating with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Nigeria Police Force, and the families of those who died in the attack, which occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
“We are deeply saddened by reports that several persons were injured, and others remain unaccounted for following the attack,” the statement read.
According to PSNAFSA, personnel of the Police Mobile Force, tactical teams and conventional police units deployed to the area engaged the attackers in a gun battle that lasted about seven hours before repelling the assault, forcing the attackers to retreat into the surrounding forest in the early hours of Friday, September 11.
The group commended the security operatives who responded to the attack and “stood firm in defence of the community despite the intensity and duration of the confrontation.”
Abayomi-Fatile said the four slain policemen “placed themselves in harm’s way in the course of protecting lives and defending the community,” adding that their loss was “not only a loss to the Nigeria Police Force but also a devastating blow to their families, colleagues and the nation.”
PSNAFSA said the incident underscored the risks facing security personnel in Nigeria and called for improved support for officers deployed to vulnerable communities, particularly in intelligence, operational equipment, logistics, communications and welfare.
“We urge the relevant authorities to intensify efforts to locate persons still unaccounted for, provide immediate and adequate medical attention to those injured, and ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and brought to justice,” the statement said.
The group also called for stronger intelligence-gathering and early-warning mechanisms to help security agencies detect and respond to threats before they escalate, and appealed to residents of vulnerable communities to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information.
“At PSNAFSA, we believe that supporting those who protect the nation is a collective responsibility,” Abayomi-Fatile said. “The men and women of our security agencies cannot be left to confront increasingly complex threats without the necessary institutional, operational and public support.”
She urged Nigerians “not to become desensitised to the sacrifices of security personnel who lose their lives while protecting others,” noting that “behind every fallen officer is a family that must live with the consequences of that sacrifice.”
The group prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased, comfort for their families and colleagues, and speedy recovery for the injured, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies.
