The Rivers State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of Barrister Bright Owhor, 46, of No. 40c Market Road, Rumuomasi, who was shot dead by unidentified gunmen on July 6, 2025.
Following the incident, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched a comprehensive investigation, employing intelligence gathering and technical surveillance over a ten-day period, which led to the identification and arrest of all suspects involved in the crime.
The arrested individuals have been identified as: Prince Samuel (30), Armed operative, Daniel Godwin (25), Driver of the getaway vehicle, Henry Peter (24), Arms supplier and the individual who pulled the trigger, Godfrey Emmanuel, a.k.a. Ibu (30), Gang leader, Chukwu Nneji (34), Justice Dimkpa (27) and Promise Wikere (22) – Handler of stolen vehicles.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the Deygbam Secret Cult Group. They admitted to their roles in the murder, the illegal withdrawal of funds from the victim’s bank account, and participation in recent cult clashes between BS and G12 factions of the Deygbam cult in the Diobu area of Port Harcourt.
The police also recovered the following items during the operation: One MTN SIM card, four locally made pistols, seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, two live cartridges, one minibus and one Toyota Camry.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the officers of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their swift and effective response. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of all residents across the state.
“These arrests reflect our strategic focus on intelligence-driven policing and reaffirm our dedication to restoring public trust in law enforcement,” CP Adepoju said.
