RULAAC Writes CP Over Civilian Loss Of Fingers At Check Point, Demands Compensation

-

The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre has written a petition to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, highlighting the maiming and abandonment of one Mr David Adoyi, demanding adequate compensation and legal redress.

The Petition signed by RULAAC’s lawyer, Samuel Akpologun, states that Adoyi suffered permanent disability due to the loss of his fingers during an illegal stop-and-search operation carried out by members of the police force on 10th January 2022.

Akpologun further states: “As you may recall, RULAAC previously submitted a formal request dated 14th August 2023 for redress and monetary compensation on Mr. Adoyi’s behalf.

“We are aware that you referred the matter to the Area Commander of Area D for investigation. We have since been informed that the investigation has been completed and the report has been submitted to your office.

“In light of the serious nature of this incident and the irreversible harm caused to Mr. Adoyi, we respectfully request the following; Confirmation of Receipt of Investigation Report,  kindly confirm that your office has received the investigative report from the Area Commander of Area D.”

The lawyer further asked the Police to provide RULAAC with information on the findings of the investigation and let it know the specific actions that had been or would be taken based on the report.

Akpologun argued: “Given the significant impact on Mr. Adoyi’s life, we urge you to expedite the process of determining fair monetary compensation and other forms of redress to which he is entitled.

“We request an estimated timeline regarding the closure of this case and the disbursement of compensation to Mr. Adoyi. We trust that your office understands the gravity of this situation and the need for a swift and just resolution. Mr. Adoyi has endured significant physical, emotional, and financial suffering due to this incident. Prompt and fair action from your office will not only provide some measure of justice to Mr Adoyi but will also reinforce public trust in the police force.”
