Security is everyone’s business – IGP

-

The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, on Thursday called on Nigerians to assist security agencies in the detection and prevention of crime, insisting that security is everyone’s business.

Speaking at the 31st edition of the Annual lecture and award ceremony put together by members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (SCRAN) held in Lagos, the IGP said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the society is crime free.

The event is with the Theme: Insecurity: Tackling the dark cloud over Nigeria’s unity, and prosperity ahead of the 2023 General Elections.

The IGP was represented at the event by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone 3, comprising Lagos and Ogun States, Bode Adeyinka Adeleke, who noted Nigerians have left the task of security solely to the government for far too long, adding that the only way to effectively secure the nation is if the citizens play their part.

The IGP explained that the dividends of security could not be quantified in monetary terms, urging all to cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.

“All hands must be on deck to ensure a crime-free environment,” he added.

The IGP eulogised members of CRAN, insisting that the theme of the lecture was apt, taking into account that the 2023 general election was just by the corners.
