The Nigerian Senate has confirmed former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, as the country’s new Minister of Defence.
Musa’s confirmation came on Wednesday following a voice vote by lawmakers after a rigorous screening session in which senators questioned him extensively on national security and defence matters.
President Bola Tinubu had nominated Musa for the position on Tuesday, barely 40 days after his retirement from the military. The president’s nomination was transmitted to the Senate the same day, paving the way for his swift confirmation.
With his appointment, Musa is expected to bring his recent frontline military experience into the Defence Ministry as Nigeria continues to grapple with pressing security challenges across the country.
