Series #88: Sending Wards on Holiday Outside the Home Requires Careful Consideration

-

School holidays often provide children with opportunities to rest, learn new skills, and spend time with relatives or family friends. While these visits can be beneficial, parents and guardians should carefully assess where their children are going, who will be responsible for them, and the environment they will be exposed to.

Some children are sent to unfamiliar homes without adequate information about the people they will live with or the conditions they may face. Although many hosts have good intentions, poor supervision or unsafe environments can expose children to abuse, neglect, exploitation, harmful influences, or other risks.
Parents and guardians should stay in regular contact with their children, know their daily activities, and encourage them to speak up if they ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Every child should know that they can report any concern without fear of being ignored or blamed.
A security-conscious parent puts a child’s safety above convenience and ensures every decision is guided by careful planning and vigilance.
Quote: A child’s safety should always come before convenience or social expectations.
Just be good. Reflect. Stay alert.
