Police personnel in Abia State are still reeling in shock following the cold-blooded murder of Inspector Ugwor Samuel, AP/NO 321593 by his colleague identified as inspector Atule Benedict, AP/No 263629.
According to eyewitnesses, Benedict corked his rifle and shot his colleague point blank during a quarrel and when other policemen moved to wrest his rifle from him, he threatened to kill them. He then bolted.
The deceased and the fleeing inspector were both attached to a lawmaker representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Mr. Ginger Onwusibe.
According to a Police Situation Report sighted by Security News Alert, “Eye witness confirmed there was a brief altercation, during which the said Inspector Atule Benedict shot the deceased Inspector. Efforts to disarm him by other policemen with them proved abortive as he went bizarre and threatened to kill more policemen. Consequently, he escaped to an unknown destination with his AK47 rifle. Later, the suspect submitted himself and his AK47 rifle to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID), Umuahia. He was immediately detained and a discreet investigation commenced. His rifle was secured in SCIID custody.
