Soldier Kills Wife, Himself in Apparent Murder-Suicide at Wawa Cantonment

A Nigerian Army soldier allegedly shot and killed his wife before taking his own life on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Wawa Military Cantonment in Niger State.

According to an internal military situation report, the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 AM. The soldier was identified as Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi, service number 18NA/77/1173, a personnel of the 221st Battalion who was on barracks duty at the time.

The report states that LCPL Femi fatally shot his wife, Blessing, inside their residence at Block 15, Room 24 of the Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ). He then turned the weapon on himself.

The remains of both the soldier and his wife have been recovered and deposited at the 221st Battalion Medical Reception Station.

The Nigerian Army has launched an investigation to determine the motive and the full circumstances surrounding the tragic event. Further details are expected to be released pending the outcome of the investigation.
