The Delta State Police Command said it has arrested a suspected cultist identified as Ekene Okonji aka Galaxy, for terrorising Ibusa Community and its environs in Delta State.

It was gathered that on the 27th of May at 6:pm, the Anti-Crime Patrol team attached to Ibusa Division while on routine patrol in conjunction with Ibusa Anti-Cult volunteers, arrested Ekene Okonji a.k.a. “Galaxy,” a notorious criminal known for terrorising Ibusa Community and its environs.

Upon searching the suspect, one locally-made cut-to-size short gun, and seven live cartridges were recovered.

The police spokesman in the state Bright Edafe noted that following the restiveness in the oil-producing Ugboren Community of Sapele Local Government Area, Delta State, over a leadership tussle, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali FCIA, directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Sapele Division to carry out an intensive raid in the Community and ensure that sanity was restored.

Edafe said: “Consequently, on May 28th, 2022, at about 1: 30pm, combined teams of Policemen attached to the Sapele Division and men of the Nigerian army attached to 91 battalions carried out intensive raid in the community, including their community shrine. During the raid, two FNC assault Rifles were recovered, and two suspects were arrested. Measures have been put in place to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.”

Also on June 28th, at 11:30 pm, the Command Raiders Operatives while on investigation activities along Asaba – Benin Expressway in Okpanam intercepted some hoodlums suspected to be cultists.

“The suspects on sighting the team took to their heels but the team chased them and, in the process, arrested six of the suspects namely, Sunday Okafor Destiny, Stephen Osamota Pius, and four others. One locally-made cut-to-size double barrel gun, six expended cartridges, and one 9mm live ammunition were recovered. The investigation is ongoing.”
