Suspected car snatchers arrested while shopping for buyers

The Nasarawa State Police Command said it has arrested four suspected car snatchers just as they were looking for buyers to buy a stolen Toyota Camry car.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the incident, said the suspects were arrested on the 5th of October 2024, at about 2:pm following an intelligence report.

The operation and arrest were carried out by Police detectives attached to the New Karu Area command.

Nansel said: “One Mohammed Aliyu Abubakar of Mabushi, FCT Abuja and three others had a Blue Toyota Camry with registration number RBC 980 DA suspected to be stolen, and were in search of a buyer.

“Responding swiftly to the intercept, the detectives stormed the location of the criminals who took flight on sighting the Police but luck ran out for the suspect mentioned above; he was arrested and the vehicle recovered to the station.”

In another development, based on credible information, Police operatives attached to Mararaba ‘A’ Division have arrested the trio of Salim Hussaini 22, Abdulkadir Musa 20, and Dimas Danja 24, all of Yelwa Road, Aso Pada, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State where one locally fabricated rifle, a knife and criminal charms were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.

According to Nansel, the suspects have confessed to belonging to a gang of armed robbers terrorising Mararaba and its environs.

He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had on the 2nd of October,2024, at about 10:40 pm stormed a residential building in Yelwa village road, Aso Pada, to carry out their nefarious activity but met stiff resistance and fled.

“The Police were contacted, and an investigation was launched into the case. That led to the subsequent arrest of the criminals. The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has called on the owner of the stolen vehicle to visit New Karu Area Command with proof of ownership to claim the recovered vehicle,” said Nansel.
