Suspected Robbers Posing As Commercial Tricycle Riders Arrested In Delta

Cult Leader Arrested During Handing Over Ceremony

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), a Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe, said that the Command has arrested the duo of Osio Emmanuel Nyerohwo, 28 and Sabiu Adamu, 26, who used to pose as tricycle riders to rob unsuspecting passengers.

Edafe disclosed that following complaints received from residents in Ekpan, Warri and environs on the activities of a syndicate which operates at nighttime as tricycle riders and robs their passengers, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ekpan Division, detailed operatives attached to Ekpan division to go all out and ensure that the suspects are arrested.

Edafe said: “Following an intensive intelligence Investigation, on 3rd January 2025, two suspects namely; Osio Emmanuel Nyerohwo, 28y and Sabiu Adamu, 26 were arrested at Warri Sapele road in Uvwie LGA. Two locally made guns, 13 live cartridges, nine mobile phones,  and their operational tricycle were recovered. The suspects are in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”

The Command also arrested suspected cultists and recovered one Beretta pistol, one revolver pistol, and three locally made guns.

Edafe said that on the 26th of July 2024, acting on credible information, operatives of Ekpan Police station raided an apartment in DSC where one Beretta pistol, two locally made double barrel guns, two locally made single barrel guns, one English revolver pistol, one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made single barrel pistol, one Beretta magazine, two toy gun, 35 rounds of ammunition were recovered.

He added: “One suspect was initially arrested and released when it was discovered that he was the father of the suspect who was at that time at large. On 23rd December 2024, the DPO got information that the suspect was sighted at Orhuwhorun town performing a handing over ceremony as the number one man in the Eiye confraternity.

“The suspect Prosper Akeni, 32 was arrested. The suspect upon interrogation stated that the guns belonged to his cult group and that he was in custody of the arms because he was the number one man. The suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing.”
