Sixteen-year-old Opeyemi, who has a bullet inside her intestines may soon die if surgery, which will cost N300, 000 is not quickly carried out on her.
In a viral video, Opeyemi, standing beside her mom, solicited money to save her life. The victim was shot by policemen chasing a yahoo-yahoo boy while she was inside her mom’s shop, and since then her life has been on the line. She is currently battling to stay alive. The police have also abandoned her
.
The victim’s mom, in her quest for a solution for her daughter, visited a place in Ibadan, Oyo State, called Oriyomi Hamzat Rescue Mission, this was also where the recording of the video requesting financial assistance was done.
The mother and daughter came all the way from Edo State to Oyo State, seeking a solution.
Opeyemi said: “Please I beg all Nigerians to come to my rescue. I don’t want to die like this. The pain I am going through is just too much for me. Please help me!”
Recounting how Opeyemi was shot by the police, the mom said it happened on December 3rd 2021 at about 10:am, policemen were yahoo-yahoo boys in Edo State.
She recounted: “The policemen were chasing a yahoo boy in Edo State, at a place called Okoro Junction, where we sell our goods. As they were chasing the internet fraudster guy, a bullet was shot and it got to my daughter on her neck. Since then we have been carrying her from one place to another.”
She further recollected that Opeyemi had been taken to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she spent 20 days, but to no avail.
The woman explained that when the incident happened, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of where the trigger-happy policeman was attached, promised to help so that Opeyemi would be all right.
“But after five days, the DPO handed the policeman that shot Opeyemi to us, saying that we should do whatever we like to him, that he had spent enough. Since then, we have been to four different hospitals seeking help. Two different surgeries had been carried out on her, and it was during one of the surgeries they made us understand that the bullet has fallen inside her and twisted with her intestine or so.”
It was also gathered that a recent x-ray showed that her intestine had started to decay due to the bullet inside her and was also causing excruciating pain. It has also destabilised her body function, including her monthly cycle, which now comes with pains and a foul stench. The mom said that the surgery may give Opeyemi a new lease on life. The surgery is N300, 000. The father of the girl is a bricklayer in Edo State.
