…Police worry over reprisal from soldiers

Tension has enveloped the Owode area of Ogun State following reports that a Yoruba separatist group allegedly attacked soldiers on Thursday 3rd November 2022 in Ogun State.
According to a Police Situation Report sighted by securitynewsalert.com, the incident occurred at about 3:30 PM and the matter is currently being investigated by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Onipanu Police Station in Ogun State Police Command.
Securitynewsalert.com heard that a team of military personnel were coming from 192 Battalion, Owode Yewa in their OP Mesa Patrol Van, when a group of Yoruba Nation agitators at Oju-Ore Roundabout, Ota, allegedly confronted them. In the process, snatching a rifle from one of the soldiers.
Following the incident, police operatives are worried that the soldiers may carry out a reprisal and therefore urged all police personnel to be alert to avert a situation that could escalate into anarchy.
The Police Sit-Rep states thus: “On the 3rd of November 2022, at about 3:30 PM, the DPO in charge of Onipanu Police Station, received information from an anonymous caller that there was an encounter between a team of military personnel coming from 192 Battalion Owode Yewa in their OP Mesa Patrol Van and a group of Yoruba Nation agitators at Oju-Ore Roundabout Ota, the soldiers and in the process, snatched a rifle from one of the soldiers. Upon receipt of the information, Supol Onipanu swiftly mobilised his patrol teams and razed to the scene. However, only the soldiers were met with their partly vandalised van. It was confirmed that one of the soldiers’ rifles was snatched from their personnel, while the hoodlums had already left the scene. An investigation has commenced and all men on patrol are hereby warned to be extra alert to probably repel such attacks and prevent such incidence. Surely God is our strength.”
