Three Suspected Kidnappers Neutralised, Victim, Rescued In Otu — Oyo Police

-

Three suspected kidnappers have been killed, and a 50-year-old abductee rescued following a joint security operation in Otu, in the Oke-Ogun axis of Oyo State, the state Police Command announced on Monday.

The operation was triggered on May 25, 2026, after local hunters on an expedition in the area came under fire from suspected kidnappers. No casualties were recorded among the hunters in that initial attack.

Acting on intelligence from the hunters, a response team comprising police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies was quickly mobilised to the scene. Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire, prompting a gun duel. Security forces overpowered the criminals, neutralising three of them.

The operation also led to the rescue of Mr Mosudi Gbolagade, who had been abducted at Okaka and was being held captive in the Otu area. Gbolagade, aged approximately 50, sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and has since been evacuated for medical treatment.

Security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle (without ammunition), a single-barreled gun, and a machete from the scene. One local hunter was also wounded during the exchange and is currently receiving hospital care.

The Commissioner of Police commended the bravery of the hunters and security stakeholders, noting that their timely intervention was critical to the outcome.

The Command reiterated its commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to security agencies.
