Tinubu Commiserates with Anthony Joshua After Fatal Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

-

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his deep sympathies to Nigerian-British boxing star Anthony Joshua, popularly known as AJ, following a tragic road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway that claimed two lives.

The incident, which occurred recently on the busy interstate highway, left the former heavyweight champion injured and resulted in the loss of two individuals.

In a statement released via his official social media handle on Monday, the President described the accident as an “immense tragedy” that has cast a dark cloud over the current season.

President Tinubu lauded Joshua’s character, noting that the boxer’s resilience on the world stage has long been a point of pride for Nigeria.

“As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country,” the President stated. “These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride.”

Recognizing the emotional toll of the event, the President extended his condolences to Joshua’s family and the families of those who perished in the crash.

The President emphasised the need for national solidarity in the wake of such a distressing event, urging Nigerians to support one another.

“In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny,” Tinubu said. “I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident.”

Concluding his message, the President offered prayers for the boxing icon’s physical and emotional healing, as well as for the deceased.

“I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period,” he added. “May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed.”
