Tinubu Extends Customs CG’s Tenure by One Year

-

By Emmanuel Udom

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the extension of the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by one year. His current tenure, originally set to expire on August 31, 2025, will now continue until August 31, 2026.

This extension, endorsed by President Tinubu (GCFR), is intended to enable Mr. Adeniyi to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives under the administration, including:
• The modernisation of the Nigeria Customs Service
• The implementation of the National Single Window Project
• The execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol

President Tinubu commended Mr. Adeniyi’s steadfast leadership and dedication to service. According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, Tinubu is confident that the extension will further empower the Nigeria Customs Service to fulfill its strategic mandate in trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
