Transparency-Driven Development: ICPC Strengthens Collaboration With NDDC

-

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to fostering transparency-driven collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

This assurance was the highlight of a high-level meeting between the two agencies held at the ICPC Headquarters in Abuja.

Key outcomes of the meeting included a mutual agreement to review and strengthen operational processes to directly address systemic inefficiencies and enhance transparency strategies aimed at accelerating the delivery of development projects in the Niger Delta region, in line with the NDDC’s mandate.

To formalize and deepen the partnership, Dr. Aliyu disclosed that the ICPC will develop an anti-corruption Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed by both institutions.

He emphasised that the strengthened collaboration will serve as a platform to actualise the provisions of Chapter Two of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which underscores the state’s responsibility to promote social order and welfare.

Dr. Aliyu commended the NDDC for its progress in infrastructure development and the provision of essential social amenities across the region and assured the NDDC Managing Director of ICPC’s readiness to support the Commission’s transparency and accountability initiatives through its public enlightenment and education mandate.

According to him, this would include sensitizing rural communities to understand and support government-led anti-corruption efforts.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement, particularly through the “Partners for Sustainable Development” initiative.

This programme, he said, brings together International Oil Companies (IOCs), state governments, and local communities for inclusive project planning and budgeting.

Dr. Ogbuku also highlighted some of the NDDC’s recent infrastructural achievements, including the electrification of five local government areas and the completion of key projects such as the Obvia Neve Road, and the Ataba-Agbarho Road.

These, he noted, are part of the Commission’s broader efforts to address decades of underdevelopment and infrastructure deficits in the region.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to the upcoming celebration of NDDC’s 25th anniversary, which will serve as an opportunity to showcase achievements, reflect on lessons learned, and outline strategies for sustainable development.

Both agencies reaffirmed their dedication to fighting corruption, improving service delivery, and ensuring inclusive, people-centered development for the Niger Delta region.
