The murder trial of Benjamin Best, popularly known as “Killaboi,” commenced this week with harrowing testimony regarding the discovery of his late girlfriend, Augusta Osedion. Best stands accused of the brutal killing of Augusta at his residence in the Ajah area of Lagos.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution called Augusta’s uncle to the stand. His testimony painted a grim picture of the search for the missing young woman and the eventual discovery of her remains.
According to the uncle’s testimony, the family grew concerned after Augusta became unreachable for three days. Guided by Augusta’s friend, Oyin, the family traveled to Best’s residence, accompanied by a soldier to ensure entry into the gated estate.
“The gate was slightly ajar, as if someone had left in a great hurry,” the uncle told the court. While Augusta’s car was found in the driveway with the keys left on the bonnet, the family was initially blocked from entering the house by estate security until police officers arrived with authorization.
The uncle described the moment the search turned into a crime scene: “I climbed a ladder to gain entry. I saw a pool of blood spreading across the apartment. Looking further, I saw a swollen body. I recognised it immediately as my niece.”
The witness further testified that the suspect’s own social media activity provided a breakthrough. Shortly after the discovery, Oyin noticed Best allegedly posting a confession online, claiming he killed Augusta following a heated argument.
The prosecution alleges that the murder involved extreme brutality. Investigators discovered that Best had not only stabbed the victim but had surgically mutilated her body, removing internal organs before fleeing the country. Best was later apprehended and extradited to face trial.
The court has adjourned the case until April 22 and 23, 2026, for further hearing and cross-examination.
The “Killaboi” case has captivated and horrified the Nigerian public since it first broke in 2023. It serves as a stark reminder of the potential for domestic violence to escalate into unspeakable tragedy, even within high-profile social circles.
Known online as “Killaboi,” Best was a social media influencer often associated with a lavish lifestyle. His digital persona, characterised by wealth and luxury, stood in sharp contrast to the violent allegations that surfaced following Augusta’s disappearance.
In July 2023, Augusta Osedion was reported missing by her family. Her body was later found in a state of decomposition at Best’s Ajah apartment. Best then took to Instagram, admitting to the killing but claiming it was accidental during a “mistake” or fight, before deleting his profile and going into hiding.
After months on the run, Best was apprehended by authorities outside of Nigeria and returned to Lagos to face the judiciary.
While initial reports focused on the stabbing, recent forensic evidence and testimonies have introduced more sinister elements to the case. The allegation that internal organs were removed has caused intense debate regarding the motive, shifting the conversation from a “crime of passion” to potential ritualistic intent or premeditated cruelty.
The upcoming dates in April are expected to feature forensic experts and further witness testimony to determine the full extent of the crimes committed. #Securitynewsalert.com
