Nigerian military forces operating under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have recorded a string of operational successes across the North East, including the disruption of coordinated terrorist attacks, the rescue of dozens of abducted civilians, and the arrest of criminal suspects ahead of the Eid-el-Adha celebrations.
The Joint Task Force (North East) said troops thwarted a major terrorist offensive along the Buratai–Chara axis in Borno State after surveillance systems detected a large movement of Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters. Forces engaged the militants with offensive fire, forcing a disorderly retreat.
“Subsequent pursuit operations by Quick Response Forces further disrupted terrorist movement, with significant casualties inflicted,” the command said in a statement, adding that 169 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered and no soldiers were lost in the engagement.
In Yobe State, troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters, carried out a successful ambush near Kasaicia village in Gujba Local Government Area.
Four Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists were neutralised, and two AK-47 rifles were recovered. Separately, troops of Sector 1 OPHK repelled an attack along the Kirawa axis, “inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers while maintaining firm control of the battlespace.”
The rescue of abducted civilians has been a notable highlight of recent operations. Troops freed additional persons along the Ngoshe–Amuda axis, bringing the total number of survivors from the Ngoshe incident alone to 69. A kidnapped civilian recovered in the Gwoza axis told troops he managed to escape terrorist captivity as a result of sustained military bombardment of terrorist hideouts in the Mandara Mountains.
Four other civilians rescued through cross-border collaboration were medically attended to, documented, and reunited with their families.
On the counter-crime front, three suspected armed robbers were arrested in Biu LGA following a tip-off, while a suspected terrorist collaborator was apprehended in Monguno. In Adamawa State, troops arrested a drug suspect in Mubi South LGA with substances believed to be cannabis. All suspects are in custody pending investigation.
Troops also conducted clearance operations across several corridors, including the Damboa–Kanama, Damboa Gwoza, and Goniri axes, recovering bombs and improvised explosive devices in the Magza area.
In Damaturu, Yobe State, Sector 2 Commander Brigadier General Edet Effiong hosted a Sallah celebration bringing together troops, community leaders, and patients from the Level II Field Hospital. Addressing those gathered, he “commended troops for their sacrifices and urged continued discipline, resilience, and dedication to duty.”
The Theatre Command said it remains committed to sustaining pressure on terror groups across the region. “The successes recorded underscore the resolve, resilience, and professionalism of troops of Operation HADIN KAI, working in synergy with other security agencies and local stakeholders,” the command said. #Securitynewsalert.com
