Troops Neutralise Terrorist, Recover Weapons in Kogi Ambush Operation

-

Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have neutralised a suspected terrorist and recovered arms and ammunition during an ambush operation conducted in Kogi State.

The operation, carried out along suspected bandit crossing routes within the Adankolo Forest Reserve in Lokoja Local Government Area, followed credible intelligence on the movement of terrorists in the area.

According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, the troops, drawn from the 12 Brigade Quick Response Group, laid an ambush at a suspected crossing point in the early hours of Sunday, May 10, 2026.

He said the troops made contact with the terrorists during the operation and engaged them in a gun battle.

“During the operation, the troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them in a firefight, neutralising one terrorist while others fled with gunshot wounds into the surrounding bush,” Abdullahi stated.

The Army disclosed that items recovered from the scene included two AK-47 rifles, one fabricated pistol, six magazines, and 145 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Other recovered items were one camouflage bandolier, a Honda motorcycle, Diclofenac medication, three mobile phones, three power banks, and the sum of N62,900.

The statement noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts under Operation TIGER PAW II aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and improving security across Kogi State and neighbouring areas.

“The successful operation is part of ongoing efforts by 12 Brigade Nigerian Army under Operation TIGER PAW II to deny terrorists freedom of action and enhance security along major routes and communities within Kogi State and adjoining areas,” the statement added.

The Army further revealed that troops are currently combing the area to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects. #Securitynewsalert.com
