Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully thwarted a series of coordinated, late-night assaults targeting military locations in Konduga, Marte, Jakana, and Mainok.
The high-intensity attacks, which began around 10:30 PM Thursday and lasted until 3:00 AM Friday, were described by military officials as a desperate attempt by terrorists to overrun key defensive positions.
Despite the intensity of the multi-pronged assault, Nigerian troops maintained their ground, employing simultaneous flanking manoeuvres and rapid reinforcement from Sectors 1 and 2 to rout the attackers.
In a statement released Friday, seen by securitynewsalert.com, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for OPHK, praised the resilience of the personnel on the front lines.
“The attacks were met with overwhelming resistance from alert and determined troops who firmly held their defensive positions. In instances where sections of the perimeter were temporarily breached, our troops swiftly counter-attacked and fully regained control,” Uba stated.
The counter-offensive resulted in the neutralisation of several high-ranking terrorist “Amirs” (leaders). While the exact number of casualties is still being tallied, the military confirmed that scores of insurgents were eliminated through a combination of ground combat and precision air strikes.
The Air Component of OPHK played a critical role, conducting overnight strikes on fleeing elements and identifying hostile staging points, further degrading the insurgents’ ability to regroup.
The victory came at a high cost. The military confirmed that several soldiers were killed in action, including a high-ranking officer who fell while leading the charge.
“Regrettably, several brave soldiers paid the supreme price in the line of duty, including a gallant officer who fought courageously from the front while leading his troops against the attackers,” the statement read.
As of Friday afternoon, the military remains in firm control of all affected bases. Ground troops are currently conducting exploitation operations to recover bodies, weapons, and abandoned combat equipment.
According to the military command, these failed assaults are a clear indicator of the increasing desperation of terrorist elements as they face sustained pressure across the theatre.
“Operation HADIN KAI remains firmly in control of the battlespace,” Lieutenant Colonel Uba concluded.
