Troops Rescue Five Kidnap Victims in Swift Operation Along 9th Mile Axis

-

Troops of the Joint Task Force Southeast (JTF SE), Operation UDO KA, have rescued five kidnapped victims following a rapid response to a distress call about an attack along the 9th Mile axis in the 82 Division Area of Responsibility.

According to information gathered by Securitynewsaert.com, the incident occurred at about 6:55 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, when suspected IPOB/ESN elements ambushed commuters travelling towards Anambra State.

According to military sources, the troops mobilised immediately and engaged the attackers with “superior firepower and tactical manoeuvre,” forcing them to abandon their captives and flee.

One of the rescued victims, visibly shaken but relieved, told reporters: “We thought it was the end. The gunmen surrounded us, but suddenly the soldiers arrived. They fought back and freed us. We are grateful to be alive.”

The Nigerian Army confirmed that the victims were unharmed, and their vehicle was recovered intact. In the aftermath, troops intensified patrols in the area to prevent regrouping and track fleeing suspects.

Brigadier General Hassan Dada, spokesperson for Operation UDO KA, emphasised the importance of public cooperation: “This success shows what can be achieved when citizens provide timely information. Our men will continue to dominate the area, deny criminals freedom of action, and ensure commuters feel safe again.”

Residents along the 9th Mile corridor expressed relief at the swift intervention. A local trader remarked, “The presence of soldiers gives us hope. People can now travel without fear, knowing the Army is watching over us.”

The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and dismantling terrorist networks in the Southeast, urging communities to remain vigilant and share credible intelligence with security agencies.
