Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have recorded fresh operational successes under Operation DESERT SANITY/VIGILANT SIEGE, including the recovery of arms and ammunition as well as the foiling of a suspected terrorist attack in the North-East region.
According to the military, troops discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along a route behind the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp near a military location in Ladari.
“The device, believed to have been emplaced to target reinforcement teams and military vehicles, was safely detonated in-situ by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists without incident. No casualties were recorded,” the statement said.
The military added that troops conducting strangulation operations along the Ladari riverbanks later uncovered an abandoned cache of arms and ammunition.
Items recovered included “one Browning pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and seven cartridges.”
In another operation, troops of Sector 3, working alongside operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), arrested a 15-year-old suspect identified as Umar Zacharria in Gubio town.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect’s involvement in terrorist activities along the Kareto axis, where motorists have been targeted,” the statement noted, adding that the suspect is currently in custody for further investigation.
The Joint Task Force said the coordinated operations demonstrate the sustained pressure being mounted against terrorist groups across the theatre of Operation HADIN KAI.
“The Joint Task Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to sustaining ongoing offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, neutralising threats, and restoring lasting peace, security and economic stability across the North East region,” the statement added.
The Military High Command also commended troops for their “professionalism, resilience, and dedication,” urging them to maintain the current operational momentum in the interest of peace and security in the North-East and Nigeria at large.
