Two Inspectors, Corporal, Arrested For Robbing a Driver At Gunpoint In Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three policemen and a civilian for robbing a driver of the sum of N3012,000 at gunpoint and further dispossessing him of his car after threatening to shoot him.

The erring policemen have been identified as F/No 513707 Corporal Idowu Sunday, AP/No 341113 Inspector Taiwo Kolawole, AP/No 309292, Inspector John Ogbe and Civilian Adeshiyan Matthew. All the policemen are said to be attached to Ijebu-Ife.

Mathew’s role in the gang was that of a driver. He was alleged to be the one who drove off with the stolen car after it was snatched from the victim identified as Kashimawo Emmanuel.

They were arrested on the 12th of January 2024 by detectives attached to the Obalende Division and will be charged with armed robbery.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include, “Type O6 with rifle No 23286, 10 rounds of ammunition. One AK 47 rifle with rifle No 804275, six rounds of ammunition. Also recovered are one Pencil Light Toyota Camry Car with Registration No APP684 DS, Black Colour and statement of the complainant.”

According to information received by securitynewsalert, “On the 12th of January 2024, at about 8:45 am, one Kashimawo Emmanuel of TASUED  university Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State came to the station and reported that while he was driving in his Venza car with registration number LSD 813EX, brown colour, he came across a gang of four armed men.

“One of them was putting on a police round neck camouflage, while three others were on mufti. They demanded for his phone, but he refused to give it to them.

“One of them fired a shot into the air, and that was when Emmanuel complied with them. They entered his car and took him away towards Sagamu Expressway.

“On getting to Ososa, they made a U-turn back to Ijebu-Ode, at Ijebu-ode, a sum of N312,000 was transferred from his account into account number 9097829766 Opay.

“Armed with the information on the receipt, policemen quickly made a call to the Opay account number. In the process, it was discovered that the Opay account number belonged to a Point of Sale (POS) Operator in Ijebu-Ode.

“The police warned the POS Operator, that on account should he give the money to anyone that came for it.

“Furthermore, the POS Operator was instructed to tactically delay anyone that came for it pending the arrival of policemen.

“On getting to the POS shop at Ibadan Garage, one F/NO 513707 CPL. Idowu Sunday attached to Ijebu-Ife was arrested. On the way back to the station, the other three were arrested along the road.

“They include AP/NO 341113 inspector Taiwo Kolawole, AP/NO 309292 inspector John Ogbe, both attached to Ijebu-Ife and one civilian Adeshiyan Matthew who happens to be the driver.

“Exhibits recovered from them are as follows; type o6 with rifle No 23286, 10 rounds of ammunition, one AK 47 rifle with rifle No 804275, six rounds of ammunition, also one Pencil Light Toyota Camry car with registration number APP684DS, black colour.

“The statement of the complainant had been obtained. Also,  that of the POS Operator had been obtained, while statements of the suspects had also been obtained under caution. The case will be transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department (SCIID) for further investigation.”
