Umuchigbo-Nike Violent Clashes: Enugu CP Visits Scenes, Orders Full-Scale Investigation, Urges Calm As 27 Suspects Are Arrested

-

The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has visited the scenes of the recent violent clashes in Umuchigbo-Nike, Enugu East Local Government Area, where two brothers were gruesomely murdered and several houses, vehicles, and other properties were set ablaze or destroyed.

During the visit, the Commissioner expressed deep concern over the scale of the avoidable and senseless violence, and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough and discreet investigation into the incident. He also ordered a sustained manhunt for the fleeing suspects, assuring that all those found culpable will be brought to justice.
CP Giwa further urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and members of the warring factions to remain calm, embrace dialogue, sheathe their swords, and support the Police in ensuring that justice prevails and peace is fully restored to the community.
Preliminary investigation reveals that the attacks and destruction stemmed from a leadership tussle that has long divided the community. It further shows that the murder of the two brothers on 29th October 2025 by one faction, and a retaliatory attack by the opposing faction the following day, led to the destruction and burning of five residential buildings and several vehicles.
Twenty-seven (27) suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the incident, while ongoing investigative and operational efforts are aimed at apprehending others still at large.
Normalcy has, however, been restored in the area, with police operatives deployed to maintain law and order. The Commissioner reaffirms the Command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining public peace and security, warning that acts of violence under any guise will not be tolerated in Enugu State.
