Viral video: Four remanded in prison for fighting policemen

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, today confirmed that the four Nigerians, who were seen in a viral video fighting policemen have been charged to court and remanded in prison custody.

It will be recalled that Ehis Tito Odigie, 33, Oyedeji Motunrayo, 26, corps member, Miracle Onukuoforobi, 27, an undergraduate at Igbinedion University and Bolade Richard, 31, corps member, were all arrested after fighting policemen.

Hundeyin said: “All four were arraigned at the Magistrate Court, Ogba, today for a serious assault on police officers. The case was adjourned till 10th October 2022. Meanwhile, all four have been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Facility.”

Following repeated assaults on police personnel recently, the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Usman Baba, has condemned the attacks and ordered the prosecution of all assault cases.

He urged Nigerians to respect their police personnel.

In a press statement signed by Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, Baba strongly condemned the recent trend of assault on Police Officers and men in uniform, carrying out official and lawful duties in various locations across the nation.

The statement reads: “The IGP emphasised that attacks on Police Officers, who are uniformed agents of the state, is both illegal and an affront on the rule of law. The IGP warned that attacks on police officers and men in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, as the Force holds the lives of its personnel sacrosanct. Consequently, the IGP has directed all Police Commands and Formations to ensure that individuals who engage in an assault on police officers, irrespective of preceding factors, are made to face the full wrath of the law via swift prosecution in courts of competent jurisdiction. The Inspector-General of Police while reiterating the commitment of the Force to ensuring the protection of lives and property, stressed the importance of according respect for the fundamental rights of Police officers and other security operatives, in order to enable them to advance their sacred mandate of serving and protecting the citizens better and maintenance of law and order.”
