‘We’ll hold Gov. Uzodima responsible should anything happens to Ikenga’

-

The National Co-Spokesman for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), Comrade Mark Adebayo has said that the organisation will hold the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodima, responsible should anything happens to Ikenga Ugochinyere.

He made this statement after information filtered out that Ikenga’s home was under attack.

Ikenga is PDP’s House of Representatives Candidate for Ideato Federal Constituency of Imo state.

Mark claims that he has received several text messages from his colleague and calls on all security agencies to rise in the protection of his colleague.

Mark said: “I have received disturbing texts from my colleague, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, that he and his supporters are under attack and his house is being shot into and about to be set ablaze.  Nigerians would remember that an aide to the incumbent Imo state governor recently threatened Ikenga for which the latter raised alarm about his safety. One would have expected the Police authorities to invite the persons involved and thorough investigation carried out with a view to arresting and prosecuting the culprit but nothing like that has happened. As I speak, I can’t reach my colleague again after sending those desperate messages. Should anything happen to Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, we shall hold the Imo state governor and his aides responsible for it. I’m immediately filing an official petition with the international community on this dastardly development which I condemn in its entirety and I call on the IGP to send in his men to rescue my colleague and his people immediately. Every second counts now.”

Ikenga, in a torrent of messages, alerted Nigerians that his home was under attack. His uncle was also killed in the attack, while many vehicles parked in his home were razed.

Many human rights activists and lawyers believed that the attack was state-sponsored.

During the attack, Ikenja was able to send out a torrent of messages via his WhatsApp: “We are under attack in Akokwa. They have surrendered us. My house Umukegwu Akokwa. They are killing everyone. We are under attack. Help, help. We néed help… My uncle has been killed now.. They are setting everything on fire. Pz helppppopppppp.”

It was gathered that over 50 gunmen surrounded Ikenga’s home in Akaokwa, Ideato North. The situation of Ikenja as at press time is yet unknown.
