Widow Cries Out to Nigerians for Help, Seeks ₦5m for Life-Saving Kidney Treatment

-

A 57-year-old widow and former trader, Mrs Ann Assih, has issued an urgent public appeal to Nigerians for financial assistance as she battles life-threatening kidney failure. Currently unable to afford the escalating costs of treatment, Mrs Assih is seeking to raise N5 million to fund a critical surgery and ongoing dialysis.

The widow’s health crisis began less than a year ago, abruptly ending her livelihood and leaving her family struggling to keep up with medical bills.

She recalled the onset of the illness, noting that her health challenges began in June 2025 when she first noticed severe swelling in her legs, a loss of appetite, and rapid breathing. After being rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), she received the devastating diagnosis of kidney disease.

The medical requirements for her survival are rigorous and expensive. Specialists at LASUTH have advised that she undergo dialysis twice weekly to stay stable. However, the financial burden has proven insurmountable for the family.

“Each dialysis session costs ₦70,000, excluding the cost of access,” Mrs Assih explained. “I later stopped dialysis because the neckline inserted at Kidney Solutions became infected. Although they inserted the neckline, I was later informed that it could no longer be used. Currently, my legs are swollen, and I am unable to continue dialysis.”

The immediate priority for Mrs Assih is the insertion of a new neckline access, which carries a price tag of approximately ₦400,000. This procedure is the only way she can resume the dialysis treatments that cost her roughly ₦280,000 every month.

Facing a mounting medical crisis, the widow is now turning to the generosity of the public to help her reach the N5 million target required for her immediate care.

“I urgently need financial assistance to enable me to insert a new neckline, continue dialysis, and eventually undergo a kidney transplant,” she pleaded. “I am requesting ₦5,000,000. This amount will help sustain my treatment, cover further dialysis sessions, and support my medical care. I humbly ask for financial support to help me continue my treatment and stay alive. Any assistance will be deeply appreciated.”
