The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP Kolo Yusuf, has promised citizens of the state that he would do all possible to ensure that women and children who were kidnapped are rescued unhurt.

Yusuf said that the victims were from Wanzamai Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of the State and that, the Command in collaboration with the military and vigilante was making tireless efforts to rescue the victims hale and hearty and reunite them with their families.

Yusuf said: “Information received by the Command from the Village Head of Wanzamai revealed that about nine women and children left their homes to the bush to fetch for firewood. As they moved deep into the forest, they were accosted and abducted to an unknown destination by bandits.

“On receipt of the report, nearby joint Police and other security agencies mobilised to the scene and commenced a search and rescue operation with a view to rescue the hostages and arrest the assailants. The Commissioner of Police further deployed an additional Police Tactical team to complement the ongoing rescue mission.

“The Command, therefore, urges the public to discountenance some sections of the media, reporting the abduction of 80 people. Tasking the media to verify their information before going on air. The Command also appealed for continuous partnership from the public to ensure the safe rescue  of the victims.”
