Police smash gang targeting cyclists with weapons

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested one of the gang members, of a gang that used to target cyclists with weapons in order to steal their motorcycles.

The suspect, Mudasiru Haruna was arrested after he posed as a passenger, hired Aliyu Lawal a cyclist to take him somewhere and then attacked him with a stone, leaving him unconscious along the road.

After attacking Lawal with the stone, Haruna took the motorcycle and sold it for a paltry sum of money.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, said: “On the 25th October, 2022 at about 2:30PM, Mudasiru Haruna, chattered a motorcyclist named Aliyu Lawal and while on transit, the suspect asked the motorcyclist to stop. He claimed that one of his shoes had fallen down and urged the cyclist to stop. When Haruna got down, the suspect picked a stone and hit the cyclist on the head.

“As a result, Lawal fell down unconscious, and Haruna took the motorcycle to Usman Alias, a charger and subsequently sold it to Lawali Gulma, now at large. In the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime and that the sum of N 100, 000, being the part payment of the sold motorcycle had been recovered. Investigation into the case is in progress.”

The CP also said that the command under his watch, on the 31st of October, 2022, at about 8:30 am,  arrested Ayuba Rege, 20, who was found in possession of one locally made pistol in his school bag at Government Comprehensive High school Senchi.
