Three arrested for robbery, removing over N9m from Union Bank account

Three men have been arrested over their alleged connection to a robbery attack on Muntari Abubakar in the Berger area of Lagos State and removing N 9,700,00 from his Union Bank account.

According to a preliminary investigation, the money was removed from Abubakar’s account and moved into different accounts domiciled in different banks.

Those arrested in connection with the crime have been identified as Abu Oladeji Babatunde, 30, Abraham Osi Richard, 35 and Ibrahim Yaya, 30.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Magaji Kontagora while confirming the incident, explained that: “On the 11th of October, 2022, at about 2:PM, Muntari Abubakar of Jega LGA, Kebbi State, reported that on 7th August, 2022, while on transit from Lagos to the northern part of the country, unknown persons numbering about 10, attacked him between Berger to Toll Gate and collected the sum of N10,000 cash and one cell phone Tecno handset. Later, he was rescued by a team of policemen on patrol.”

The CP further said: “Subsequently, on the 15th of August, 2022, while at home, he went to Union Bank, Jega, to withdraw some money, but he discovered that the sum of N 9,700,00 had been withdrawn from his bank account and transferred into different bank accounts. On receipt of the report, a team of detectives swung into action and succeeded in arresting Abu Oladeji Babatunde at Ogun State. Further investigation led to the arrest of Abraham Osi Richard and Ibrahim Yaya and they were arrested in connection with the case at Lagos State. Investigation into the case is in progress and the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.”

Similarly on the 18th November 2022, at about 1:am, one Bagudu Ladan of Kwamawa village, Birnin Kebbi LGA, reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters, Gwadangaji, that some unidentified persons had trespassed into his house and rustled his two cows.

On receipt of the report, a team of policemen immediately responded and pursued them. Consequently, 20 years old Ibrahim Aliyu and 18 years old Yusuf Arzika were arrested for possessing the two rustled cows. The investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged in court after the completion of the investigation.
