8-Year-Old Girl Killed in Crash Involving Undocumented Immigrant, Causing Renewed Debate Over Sanctuary Laws

-

An eight-year-old girl, the daughter of a United States Marine, has been killed in a tragic incident allegedly involving an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala with a prior criminal record, according to a social media post by commentator Andrew Kolvet.

Kolvet claimed that the suspect had previously been convicted of two driving under the influence (DUI) offences and was ordered to be deported in 2023, but remained in the United States due to sanctuary city policies.

Details surrounding the incident, including the exact location and circumstances of the crash, have not been independently verified by authorities as of the time of this report.

The victim’s father, a US Marine, was reportedly critically injured in the incident and is said to have lost a leg. He is currently said to be fighting for his life.

The incident has reignited public debate over sanctuary city laws, which limit the extent to which local law enforcement cooperates with federal immigration authorities. Critics argue that such policies allow individuals with criminal records to remain in the country, potentially endangering public safety, while supporters maintain that sanctuary laws encourage undocumented immigrants to cooperate with police without fear of deportation.

In his post, Kolvet described sanctuary city laws as “an abomination” and called for their abolition, arguing that they place law-abiding citizens at risk.

Law enforcement agencies and immigration authorities have yet to release an official statement confirming the claims or providing further details on the suspect and the case.
