Nigerian Urges U.S. Congressman to Intervene in Release of Cleric’s Family Held by Islamists

-

An appeal has been made to a United States lawmaker, Representative Riley Moore, to intervene in the case of the abducted family of a slain Christian cleric, Venerable Edwin Achi, who remains in captivity under Islamist militants.

The call was made by FS Yusuf in a message shared on social media, urging the U.S. congressman to lend his voice and use his platform to demand the immediate release of the cleric’s wife and young daughter, who were abducted alongside him.

According to the appeal, Venerable Achi, described as a devoted Christian cleric, was kidnapped with his family by radical Islamist extremists. While in captivity, he was reportedly killed by his abductors. His wife and young daughter, however, were spared and are said to still be held by the militants under harsh and uncertain conditions.

Yusuf described the situation as dire, stressing that the surviving members of the cleric’s family are “languishing at the mercy of these extremists” and urgently require international attention to secure their freedom.

The appeal called on Representative Moore to advocate for the family’s release and to help draw global attention to their plight, noting that international pressure could be critical in pushing for their safe return.

There has been no official response yet from Representative Moore or confirmation from authorities regarding ongoing efforts to rescue the captives. The case adds to growing concerns over attacks on religious leaders and civilians by extremist groups, as well as the continued use of abductions as a tool of terror and leverage.
