Cyber fraud: AIG recants, insists journalist misquoted him

-

The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos State, Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, has denied saying that some of his men were into internet fraud and cultism.

In a statement signed by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, a Superintendent of Police, Hauwa Idris-Adamu, she stated that it had become imperative for the Command to clear the air and set the records straight on the news being circulated by some media that the Bode admitted that some of his men are into internet fraud otherwise known as Yahoo-Yahoo and Cultism.

She added: “The Command under the watch of the AIG wish to inform the public that the news was erroneously published as the AIG never had any conversation with any journalist during his visit to Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police and that the AIG was quoted out of context. In the in-house lecture he had with officers and men of the Ogun State Command on the 28th of July 2022; no such statement was made. The AIG only charged officers and men of the Ogun State Command not to get involved in such practices-Cultism, internet Fraud and other social vices- to be more dedicated to duty, respect the rule of law and be civil to members of the public while they eschew all forms of corrupt practices. Members of the public are therefore urged to disregard the erroneous publication being circulated as no such statement was made by the AIG and there is no such practice in the Nigeria Police; anyone found doing such will be made to face the full wrath of the law, contrary to the news in circulation.”
