Enugu Police Dismantles Illegal Firearms Workshop in Udi LGA

-

In a breakthrough against the proliferation of illegal firearms, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have dismantled a clandestine firearms fabrication workshop in Amofia-Agu Affa, Udi Local Government Area.

The tactical operation was executed on June 30 at approximately 4:00 p.m. by officers of the Command’s Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad following credible intelligence.

The raid was triggered by the arrest and confession of 32-year-old Ekene Okafor, a suspected member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity. Okafor, previously apprehended for conspiracy, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms, led authorities to the workshop where his locally made cut-to-size gun was undergoing repairs.

Upon arrival, the workshop’s operator fled the scene, abandoning a cache of weapons and tools. Items recovered included: A locally made cut-to-size single-barrel gun, two English-made double-barrel guns and eight single-barrel guns, two live cartridges and eight expended ones, Firearms repair tools, three generator sets and Other incriminating exhibits.

Authorities are actively pursuing the workshop’s fleeing owner.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, PSC, lauded the operatives for their swift and effective action, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms production and related crimes. He urged the public to remain vigilant, comply with the law, and continue sharing credible intelligence to aid law enforcement efforts.

This development marks a firm step toward curbing criminal networks and ensuring community safety across Enugu State.
