Delta Police Nab Kidnapping, Cultism Suspects, Recovers Firearms

-

Two breakthroughs were recorded this week by the Delta State Police Command in its fight against criminality, as officers made high-profile arrests of suspected kidnappers and cult members while recovering a cache of dangerous weapons.

In the early hours of July 27, 2025, intelligence-led operations carried out by the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), under the leadership of ASP Julius Robinson, in collaboration with the X-Squad and Buffalo Patrol Teams, resulted in the arrest of a notorious kidnapping suspect.

The raid targeted a suspected hideout along Ibusa Road, leading to the arrest of 42-year-old Chiadiji Collins, also known as “Smooth,” who has been on the command’s watchlist for his alleged involvement in several kidnapping cases within the Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, and Asaba regions.

Following his arrest, Collins guided operatives to his residence in Ewulu community, Aniocha South LGA, where an AK-47 rifle and 40 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition were discovered. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of another suspect, Ezechie Andrew, from the same community. Two pump-action guns and two live cartridges were recovered from Andrew’s possession. Police believe both suspects are part of a kidnapping syndicate operating across various communities in Delta State.

In a separate operation on July 30, 2025, officers from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) raided a criminal den near Big Gate, Campus III, Abraka. The early-morning operation led to the arrest of three suspects: 21-year-old Benjamin Okwufulueze, 22-year-old Augustine Ifeanyi, and 27-year-old Iruma Japheth.

Recovered from the scene were a locally fabricated Beretta pistol, four rounds of live ammunition, a black cap with “Eiye” insignia, and a battle axe. The suspects confessed to being members of the Eiye confraternity, a secret cult group. Investigations remain ongoing.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has urged parents and guardians to counsel youths against participating in criminal and cult-related activities.

He also emphasised the importance of public vigilance and cooperation, encouraging residents to report suspicious individuals or activities to law enforcement authorities.
