The Oyo State Police Command has announced significant breakthroughs from recent intelligence-driven stop-and-search operations, leading to the recovery of illegal firearms, a stolen vehicle, and human remains.
In an operation on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at approximately 9:11 PM, a team from the Federal Highway Patrol intercepted a Toyota bus with registration number AFZ 933 XA at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. A search of the vehicle uncovered two locally-made single-barrel firearms, two new short stainless steel machetes, and twenty live cartridges.
The driver, who was unable to produce a valid license or vehicle documentation, was immediately taken into custody, and the bus was impounded.
This success followed another operation on Wednesday, September 17, where officers recovered a stolen white Toyota Camry with registration number LSD 957 JX along the Ogbomoso-Iseyin Road. In a separate and disturbing incident on the same day, a suspect was arrested after human remains were discovered in their hand luggage inside a white commercial bus with registration number XA 551 IRG.
The Commissioner of Police for Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, reiterated the Command’s commitment to proactive policing. “These recoveries underscore the effectiveness of our intelligence-led strategies aimed at curbing vehicle theft and other illicit activities,” he stated. “We are dedicated to ensuring the safety of all residents and will continue these targeted operations.”
The Command urges the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station to help make Oyo State a safer place for everyone.
