In a swift response to recent banditry in Kwara State, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division of the Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General CR Nnebeife, conducted an operational visit to Ayekale village on October 9, 2025, following a deadly attack near Idofin.
The assault, which occurred in Olegbede village, approximately 12 kilometres from Idofin Ayekale, claimed the lives of three traders. During his visit, Major General Nnebeife met with the village’s traditional ruler, Oba Pius Oluwole Oni Dofin of Idofin, Odoeshe Ayekale, to offer condolences and reaffirm the Army’s commitment to securing the region.
Oba Pius attributed the attack to the village’s proximity to Babasango Forest, a known hideout for criminal elements. In response, Major General Nnebeife assured the Royal Father that military operations would be intensified to flush out bandits and restore peace across the forested areas.
Earlier that day, during an inspection of Patrol Base Babanla, Major General Nnebeife and his troops advanced into Babasango Forest and successfully rescued two kidnapped victims. The victims were later handed over to Oba Pius Oluwole as part of the GOC’s visit.
This operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity and protect vulnerable communities in Kwara State.
