Delta Police Neutralise Kidnappers, Bust Drug and Church Robbery Syndicates in Major Raids

-

The Delta State Police Command has reported a series of significant victories against crime in recent weeks, successfully neutralising two suspected kidnappers, arresting a major drug trafficker, and dismantling a syndicate responsible for robbing churches.

The operations led to the recovery of high-calibre firearms, ammunition, and a large consignment of illicit drugs.

In a fierce firefight on September 17, 2025, a joint team of the Delta State Police Command and “Operation Delta Sweep” stormed a known criminal hideout in Nniugbo, Boji Boji Owa.

According to a statement from the command, the suspected kidnappers opened fire on the approaching security team. During the gun duel that followed, two suspects sustained fatal injuries and were later confirmed dead at the Owa-Alero General Hospital. An AK-47 rifle, forty rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and two magazines were recovered from the scene. A manhunt for the remaining gang members is currently underway.

Earlier, on September 16, police acted on intelligence and distress calls regarding a syndicate that specialises in vandalising churches at night to steal musical equipment. Patrol teams from the Ogwashi-Uku Division, working with local vigilantes, intercepted a gold Toyota Sienna van with two occupants. The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Emiowor, 21, and Noah Philip, 20, both of PTI Road, Warri.

A search of their vehicle yielded a significant arsenal, including one pump-action gun, three locally made single-barrel guns, a fabricated revolver gun, and a live cartridge. An iron rod, reportedly used to break down church doors, was also found. The suspects have since confessed to their crimes, and authorities have recovered some of the looted church property.

In a separate operation on October 2, the Eagle-Net Special Squad, in partnership with the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck with registration number 3BGT 18LG. The driver, Dennis Uruma, a 52-year-old male from Kogi State, was arrested after a search revealed large quantities of suspected illicit drugs.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed that all arrested suspects are in custody and that investigations into all cases are ongoing.
