Enugu Police Denies Imposing Anniversary Levy on Female Officers, Order Probe into Fake Directive

-

The Enugu State Police Command has categorically debunked allegations that it mandated female police officers to contribute funds for the Nigeria Women Police 70th Anniversary celebration.

The rebuttal follows a publication by Sahara Reporters claiming that the Command had issued a directive requiring female personnel to pay specific sums for the upcoming event.

In a statement issued on Sunday, November 23, 2025, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, described the claims as “entirely false, baseless, and without any iota of truth.”

According to SP Ndukwe, the Command never issued such an order to any cadre of female officers, whether senior or junior. He noted that the purported directive did not adhere to the Nigeria Police Force’s standardised procedures for originating and designing official orders, indicating that the message did not emanate from the Command.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Nigeria Police Force has established and standardised procedures for originating, designing, and disseminating official orders and directives,” Ndukwe stated. “Consequently, the format and platform through which the purported directive was circulated clearly show that it could not have emanated from the Command.”

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the State Intelligence Department (SID) to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the matter. The objective is to identify and prosecute those responsible for designing and circulating the misleading information.

CP Giwa urged the public to disregard the report and called on any female police officer who may have been coerced into making such payments to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
