Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have arrested two suspected car snatchers and recovered two stolen vehicles in a renewed crackdown on automobile theft across the state.
The arrest, carried out by the Command’s C4I Intelligence Unit, took place on November 20, 2025, at about 6:00 p.m. Acting on credible intelligence, officers apprehended the suspects Abubakar Abdulsalam, 43, and Shagari Shehu, 35, who were allegedly in possession of two stolen vehicles.
According to the Command, the recovered cars include a white Toyota Hilux bearing a fake registration number GWA 453 GR and an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with a fake plate number LSD 420 BT. Both vehicles have been secured in police custody for further investigation.
The suspects are currently undergoing intensive interrogation as detectives work to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the thefts, determine their individual roles, and identify possible links to wider vehicle theft syndicates operating within the state. Efforts are also underway to track down other members of the suspected criminal network.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, commended the operatives for their swift action and lauded residents for their continued cooperation in providing useful information. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and tackling crime across the state.
