Nigerian Army Troops Neutralise Armed Militia in Taraba

-

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade have neutralised four armed militia members and recovered weapons during a swift operation aimed at quelling renewed communal violence in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The intervention followed credible intelligence reports of escalating clashes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities over long-standing land disputes. The violence had already destroyed property, including the burning of houses, prompting the Army to deploy forces under Operation Peace Shield to restore order.

Upon arrival, the troops came under fire from armed assailants emerging from the Fadama axis. A brief but intense firefight ensued, during which four attackers were neutralised. Subsequent clearance operations in the area led to the recovery of three dane guns, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles.

In a twist highlighting the complexity of the conflict, a personnel of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) was found operating alongside the armed militia. He was arrested and is currently undergoing investigation and profiling to determine his level of involvement.

Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, commended the troops for their bravery and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to ridding Taraba State of criminal elements and maintaining operational momentum across all areas of responsibility.

“We remain determined to restore lasting peace and stability in Taraba. Communities must embrace peaceful coexistence and continue to support security agencies with timely and credible information,” Brigadier General Uwa stated.

The Nigerian Army has urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding as stability is gradually being restored. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest security formation. Ongoing operations continue under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa, and Operation Zafin Wuta
