CP Imo Goes Out to Investigate, Debunks Viral Kidnapping Video, Calls For Calm

-

The Imo State Police Command has strongly refuted claims made in a recent viral social media video, which falsely alleged the kidnapping of 14 passengers travelling from Owerri to Aba in the Ngor Okpala area on December 1, 2025.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, the video is misleading and is causing unnecessary panic among residents and commuters.

“Investigations reveal that the video originated from an incident that occurred earlier this year and has been recirculated online to create unnecessary panic,” DSP Okoye stated. He confirmed that concerted efforts were put in place at the time of the original incident to ensure the safe release of the victims.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has called on the public to disregard the misleading video and refrain from sharing unverified information that could generate fear and tension.

In response to concerns, CP Danjuma has assured the public that adequate security has been deployed along the axis. This enhanced security measure is being executed in synergy with other sister security agencies and local security outfits to specifically ensure the safety of commuters during the ongoing holiday season.

The deployment of security personnel along the Owerri-Aba axis aims to ensure the safety of commuters during the holiday celebrations, working in partnership with sister security agencies and local outfits.

Residents are strongly advised to remain calm, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activities immediately.  The Command encourages the public to use the following emergency contact line to report incidents:
