IGP Orders AIG Disu, CP Lagos, to Arrest any Officer Found Escorting VIPs

-

The Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Channels TV, confirmed that the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the Assistant Inspector General (AIG) in charge of the Special Protection Unit (SPU), Mr Tunji Disu and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Moshood, to deploy personnel to the Abuja airport to arrest any officer found escorting VIPs.

A similar directive was issued to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, instructing him to station officers at the airport to apprehend violators, said Hundeyin.

“The IG ordered the AIG, SPU, to go to the Abuja airport and station his men there, and arrest any police officer found escorting VIPs. He gave the same order to the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State to go to the airport and arrest any police officer escorting VIPs. That’s how seriously we take this,” Hundeyin stated.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Hundeyin reiterated that the enforcement was already underway.

“The enforcement is on, the IGP gave the order that any police officer found escorting VIPs be arrested because definitely he’s on illegal duty. Every one of them has been recalled,” he said.

Hundeyin also addressed the issue of misinformation surrounding the directive, warning against the circulation of outdated images and videos.

“We’ve been at the receiving end of fake news and misinformation. Old pictures, old videos are being recycled and that we condemn. We urge Nigerians to stay away from that,” he cautioned.
