The Borno State Police Command has launched a week-long series of events to commemorate a historic milestone: 70 Years of Courage and Service by women in Nigerian policing, spanning from 1955 to 2025.
The celebration, announced by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Command, recognises the “bravery, resilience, and transformative impact” of women officers who have been instrumental in shaping law enforcement in Nigeria for seven decades.
Speaking on the commencement of the activities, the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid PSC, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to gender inclusion, community partnership, and professional policing.
“Women have remained central to the Command’s growth, serving with distinction, compassion, and unwavering dedication,” CP Abdulmajid stated, emphasising the vital role female officers play in protecting the rights and dignity of all persons.
The Command has outlined a robust schedule of community engagement and professional development activities for the week:
Tuesday, December 2, 2025: Walkathon Against SGBV & Domestic Violence. This is a community-focused walk aimed at advocating against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), promoting gender inclusion, and strengthening public trust in policing.
Wednesday, December 3, 2025: Visitation to Orphanage. This humanitarian outreach is to support vulnerable children, reinforcing the Command’s dedication to compassion and social responsibility.
Thursday, December 4, 2025: Capacity Building Training for Women Police Officers. This is a specialised professional development session to enhance skills, leadership capacity, and operational effectiveness among female officers.
Friday, December 5, 2025: Visitation to Retired Women Police Officers. This honour visit is to recognise the sacrifices and trailblazing service of retired female personnel, acknowledging the legacy they built for today’s generation of women in policing.
The Borno State Police Command is calling on the public, stakeholders, and partners to join them in celebrating the invaluable role of women in law enforcement as the Nigeria Police Force continues to chart a more inclusive and secure future.
