Governor Bago Commends Nigerian Army at 2025 WASA Celebration in Niger

-

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commended the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sustained efforts in restoring peace and safeguarding lives and property across the state, describing the military as a critical partner in ensuring security and stability.

The governor made the commendation on Saturday, January 17, 2026, during the 2025 Combined West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration hosted by the Training and Doctrine Command of the Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA) in collaboration with the 31 Artillery Brigade at the Minna Military Cantonment, Niger State.

The colourful ceremony attracted top officials of the Niger State Government, heads of security agencies, captains of industry, traditional rulers, senior military officers, soldiers and their families, as well as other dignitaries from across the state.

Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, Governor Bago praised the professionalism and sacrifices of officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces, noting that their commitment has led to significant improvements in the security situation in several parts of the state.

“The Nigerian Armed Forces have continued to demonstrate uncommon dedication and professionalism. Their sacrifices have translated into improved security and renewed confidence in many communities across Niger State,” the governor said.

He described WASA as more than a cultural celebration, stressing that it remains a vital platform for strengthening civil-military relations and fostering mutual understanding between the Army and host communities.

Governor Bago also commended the Commanders of TRADOC NA and the 31 Artillery Brigade for successfully organising the event despite their numerous operational engagements.

Highlighting the impact of ongoing military operations, the governor recalled that areas such as parts of Shiroro and Munya Local Government Areas, which were previously unsafe, are now witnessing notable improvements due to the concerted efforts of security agencies.

As a mark of appreciation, the Niger State Government announced monetary donations to the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA), and the WASA Organising Committee.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commander, TRADOC NA, Major General Peter Malla, expressed gratitude to Governor Bago for honouring the occasion with his presence. He also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shuaibu, for his leadership and support, particularly in providing resources to enhance training effectiveness and improve troop welfare across the Nigerian Army.

Major General Malla urged officers and soldiers to remain disciplined, resilient, and committed to their constitutional duties, while acknowledging the indispensable roles played by military families in sustaining morale and operational success.

In his vote of thanks, the Commander, 31 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Mohammed Umar Jibo, thanked Governor Bago for attending the event and for his generous donations to NAOWA, NASWA, and the WASA Committee.

“These gestures have a positive impact on troop morale and further strengthen civil-military relations,” Brigadier General Jibo said.

He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his leadership and support, and commended the Commander TRADOC NA for his guidance and collaboration in hosting the event. He further thanked traditional rulers, dignitaries, military families, and the Minna community for their solidarity, describing WASA as a celebration that showcases unity in diversity.

The ceremony featured colourful cultural displays and traditional performances from various geopolitical zones, alongside other activities highlighting the Nigerian Army’s unity and diversity.
