The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of the Black Axe Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation in Uyo, the state capital.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the command said the arrests followed credible intelligence indicating that suspected cultists were conducting initiation activities at a secondary school located along Oron Road.
According to the statement, operatives who moved to the location were sighted by the suspects, who immediately fled the scene, abandoning a red mini-bus with registration number NYA-164XA. A hot pursuit by the patrol team led to the arrest of two suspects identified as Anitie Isaac and Unyime Effiong, both males.
The police said several items were recovered from the scene, including an axe, a brown calabash, a bottle of Lord’s alcoholic drink, different types of incense, coloured handkerchiefs, and an item described as a Neo Black Axe.
The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in police custody, where investigations are ongoing. The police command assured the public that further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
